Who are we?

The Genealogical Society of Queensland was established as a not-for-profit association in 1978. See here for details of its history.

Its mission is 'helping to discover your family history'.  It specialises in family history in the Australian state of Queensland.

GSQ is run by a Management Committee elected annually by its members. Any full member of the Society is eligible for election to the Management Committee. GSQ is staffed by volunteers whose role is to provide assistance and support to members and visitors; and to undertake projects designed to add to the body of resources available to family historians in Queensland.

The Society is affiliated with organisations which represent family history societies in Queensland, in the whole of Australia and New Zealand, and the British Isles. See the links below for more information:

The aim of History Queensland (HQ) is to act as an umbrella group that gives all local and family history societies throughout Queensland a united voice in promoting their interests.

The Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations Inc. (AFFHO) is the umbrella organisation for family history societies in Australia and New Zealand.

The Federation of Family History Societies (FFHS) is a British based group which exists to represent, advise and support its membership of family history societies and other genealogical organisations world-wide.
