English and Welsh Certificates

GSQ provides a service for the ordering of birth, death and marriage certificates (BDMs) from England & Wales for members who do not wish to place online orders using their own credit card. The cost is $28 per certificate. Requests are batched and ordered online on a weekly cycle.

Certificates are generally received about four weeks after ordering. Certificates are mailed to members postal addresses. Where permission to do so is given, a copy of each certificate is added to our Certificate collection.

There's no provision for submitting your application electronically - complete a form for the events required, up to four events on each form, and post it with your payment, or drop it in during your visit.

All details required must be completed, using the births, deaths and marriages indexes available for England and Wales. These are available in our library, at various other repositories and many are also available online at FreeBMD.  

Note that it is your responsibility to ensure that the information you provide from the indexes has been correctly transcribed. We are unable to double-check these details for you in the indexes.  If a certificate cannot be issued by the General Register Office, only a partial refund will be issued to you.

GSQ also provides vouchers for use on the ScotlandsPeople website, which allows download of birth, marriage and death certificates, census records and wills.
