Our Library Resources | Print |

GSQ has an extensive library of published reference material, on all aspects of genealogy and family history, collected over many years. Our catalogue covers Queensland and other Australian states, New Zealand and the Pacific, as well as extensive holdings for the United Kingdom, Europe, and other overseas countries.

We have subscriptions to pay-per-view sites such as Ancestry.com, findmypast (the UK, Irish and Australian databases) as well as the British Newspaper Archive, The Genealogist, and more.

Our collection covers print material, card indexes, microfilm/fiche and CDs, as well as online access to internet resources; in order to cater to the different research techniques and interests of our members and visitors.

It includes:

  • a comprehensive collection of reference material on subjects covering history, heraldry, genealogical research, vital records, etc.
  • available birth, marriage and death indexes (civil registration), together with some BMD registers prior to civil registration
  • a wide range of census records, post office directories and electoral rolls
  • immigration, convict and military records
  • cemetery and burial records
  • an extensive collection of published family histories
  • special collections of material in unpublished or unusual format.

GSQ has a substantial collection of Queensland resources, many of which are unique to GSQ through our own projects, including:

  • Queensland cemetery and funeral directors records
  • indexes to south east Queensland Roman Catholic parish registers

New resources are being added to the library all the time and lists of new acquisitions are published in our quarterly journal Generation.

Our catalogue is printed in a publication entitled What's in it for you? Because of the size of the catalogue, this has been split into two volumes: Australia and the Pacific; and UK, Europe and the Rest of the World. This publication is updated regularly and is available for sale from our online shop.

A project to make our catalogue available online through our website is being planned.

Use of the catalogue enables our members to do their 'homework' before they visit us, and therefore single out those resources which will provide the most efficient use of their research time.

Why not visit us and see what we have that can help you get started with your family history research and, perhaps, knock down one of your 'brick walls'. For the location of our library, see here.
