QUEENSLAND MUSTER ROLL 2009

The Genealogical Society of Queensland Inc (GSQ) has been granted funding for a project to celebrate Queensland’s 150th anniversary.
As a Bicentennial project in 1988, GSQ developed a biographical register of over 20,000 pioneers resident in the colony of Queensland between Separation in 1859 and Federation in 1901. This was an important period of Queensland’s history as it gave Queensland its own unique identity, neither part of the colony of New South Wales or a state in the Australian Federation.

THE PROJECT

The aim of the new project is to update and add to this existing register. We are inviting GSQ members and other family historians to contribute to this project.

The project will consist of two parts:

• A database and website containing biographical information about Queensland pioneers; and
A book telling brief stories of the lives of ordinary individuals or families who were part of Queensland’s history.

Biographical data and stories should be submitted by 31 July 2009, to enable GSQ to complete the database and publication by project completion.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

You can assist us in two ways:

• If you have ancestors who were present in Queensland between 1859 and 1901, you may submit biographical data to the updated Muster Roll.

Forms and Guidelines can downloaded here:

Handwritten Form (PDF Format):

Use this form if you wish to hand write your information and submit it as a hard copy.

Typed Form (MS Word Format):

Use this form if you wish to type your information and submit it via email or as a hard copy.

Guidelines for Information:

This document gives guidance as to what is expected in various fields on the forms.

• Or, you can contribute brief stories (200-400 words) of the lives of your ancestor families. We aim to get as wide a variety as possible of different locations and occupations throughout the colony.

Handwritten Story Form (PDF Format):

Use this form if you wish to hand write your story and submit it as a hard copy.

Typed Form (MS Word Format):

Use this form if you wish to type your story and submit it via email or as a hard copy.

You may also wish to give some time to input data from existing data sheets for uploading into our database, as we will need a large band of volunteers. GSQ has commissioned the development of computer software, to be installed on home computers; so that our volunteers can do the data entry in the comfort of their own home.
