WELCOME TO THE GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY OF QUEENSLAND
INC IN
BRISBANE
Welcome to the website of the Genealogical Society of Queensland (GSQ). GSQ has members throughout Queensland and there is a network of five branches in the State’s south-east. The Society is the oldest genealogical society in Queensland, being incorporated in 1978.
We have volunteers available to assist members and visitors at our East Brisbane Resource Centre. We are a friendly organisation which welcomes new members, visitors and volunteers to our Centre and at our Branches.
The Society offers:
• A Resource Centre where members are able to undertake their research;
• A limited free research service for country members;
• Interest Groups for Scottish, English/Irish, Scandinavian, German, Convict Connections and Computer Interests;
• Beginner and advanced courses in family history/genealogy at a reasonable cost
• A research service available to non-members from a Research Officer who will search the Queensland State Archives and/or the State Library of Queensland for a fee;
• The Generation journal published quarterly and a monthly eNews newsletter;
• Volunteer opportunities allowing people to increase their knowledge and skills in family history/genealogy; and
• Reciprocal arrangements with the majority of Australia’s leading family history/genealogical organizations.
GSQ is affiliated with the following organizations:
• Federation of Family History Societies (UK)
• History Queensland Inc.
One group of resources we have to offer is the funeral directors’ records of Queensland. For many years the volunteers of GSQ have been active in indexing and publishing the funeral directors records of Queensland. These records can be an important source if you are searching for someone who died in Queensland and can be accessed at the Resource Centre or purchased on CD.
If you are interested in learning more about our Society please click on the various pages listed on this site to see details of our resources and services. To fully appreciate the extent of our resources, however, you should visit our Resource Centre.
Please phone or visit us during Library Opening Hours to see how we can assist you.
