The Computer Interest Group is particularly strong, with
members ranging from raw beginners to advanced computer users with extensive
knowledge on hardware, software, modems, bulletin boards and the Internet.
The Computer Interest Group
held a seminar, hosted by Paul Mann, at GSQ
Library 12th November 2006. The subject was Family Tree Maker

Aims and Objectives
The Group aims to offer mutual support and assistance to any member, to
hold workshops and information days, and to obtain material in computer format,
which will be helpful to members in their research. Over recent years the
group has purchased births, deaths
and marriages indexes for NSW, WA,
Vic, Tas on CD-ROM format as they have become available. We are also active
in converting some of the older existing records of the Society to computer
format and also assist the other interest groups with similar projects.
Membership
Membership is open to all financial members of the Society. No
extra fees are applied, though a gold coin from members attending
meetings is appreciated. Donations are used to purchase more computer-based
resources for the Society.
Meetings
Our meeting are usually held on the second
Sunday of odd months at the GSQ Resource Centre, unless
specific circumstances such as holidays make this impractical.
The door opens at 10:30 am and the meeting starts at 11.00 am,
usually running for one hour.
An information session on the use of computers or specific programs
is usually planned after the 'official' meeting. No computer experience
is required to come along to the meeting and we can advise you on
topics such as, buying a computer, selecting a family tree program
to suit your needs, and using the Internet.
