Asylums in Queensland: Where to find the records

June 30 @ 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM

$25 – $40

Presenter: Dr Jonathan Richards, Research Fellow, University of Queensland

Most of us know that Queensland’s main mental health facility was based on the banks of the Brisbane River near Goodna.  The Woogaroo Lunatic Asylum was established in 1865 as prior to that date, mentally unstable people were sent to Sydney.  Did you also know that there were other Queensland asylums including the Dalby Sanatorium and Dunwich Benevolent Asylum?  Dr Jonathan Richards will outline what records are available, how to search them and other unusual sources.
