I am sure that many of you who grew up in Brisbane will remember McWhirters, when it operated as a department store in Fortitude Valley. In its heyday, it had over 50 departments with a tearoom on the third floor overlooking the Brisbane River.

Come along and hear Melissa Fagan talk about her recently published book, What Will Be Worn: A McWhirters Story, a true story of mothers and daughters and the legacy of the once-grand department store that binds them.
I raced through What Will Be Worn. It’s moving and alive, funny and tender. It is also a rigorous examination of the ways in which women shroud themselves, figuratively and literally. A very fine book. Susan Johnson, author of The Landing
Melissa’s presentation will highlight her research and the discoveries she made while writing What Will Be Worn. Her book will be available for sale ($30) and signing on the night.
