Society of Genealogist at a distance – using the catalogue and digital collections
July 22 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PMFree
FREE – MEMBERS ONLY
The Wednesday morning zoom group is proud to announce that they have funded a subscription to the Society of Genealogists based in London (SoG), UK.
SoG has an extensive online catalogue linking to their records. They are progressively entering more online all the time with some in the collection also having scans and transcriptions. The subscription is for one (1) license on a computer at our GSQ rooms. A shortcut will be loaded onto all the PCs. Instructions will be available to access the site; it will operate similar to our other single subscriptions, eg. TheGenealogist; British Newspaper Archive; and RootsIreland in which we have 2 licenses.
As well as the website membership, GSQ will receive their quarterly digital magazine, and members’ rates will apply when purchasing any of the additional records held by the Society. There is a 10% discount for GSQ members taking out their own membership with the Society and Members Day Rates apply if visiting their (temporary) Holloway Road headquarters in London.
A presentation by the well-known genealogist Else Churchill has been arranged for Friday evening 22nd July at 7pm AEST where Else will talk us through how to efficiently use their catalogue and do an online records search of the site. A Q&A will follow this. Hopefully, many members will attend this informative session, free for GSQ Members only.
As the Genealogist at Society of Genealogists, Else is head of profession for the Society’s out-reach, liaison and education programmes, presenting regularly around the country on behalf of the Society and to local groups. She has lectured in the USA, Canada and New Zealand and is currently one of the SoG tutors on the joint SoG/Pharos Family History Skills and Strategies Certificated Course. Else wrote a regular column in Your Family Tree Magazine and contributes to the SoG’s Genealogists Magazine and other genealogical titles in the UK and abroad.
Sale of these tickets will end on Friday 22nd July at 12pm (it is Free to attend)
Link for the event will be sent out on Thursday 21st July sometime after 4pm
