Using GSQ Computers and Equipment – Hands on at GSQ
March 30 @ 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM$10.00
As part of your membership, GSQ offers you access to many popular subscription sites, including being an Affiliated Library for FamilySearch. Some of these sites are also in MyGSQ for you to access at home. This workshop will show you what you can access at GSQ, as our library is full of hidden gems that often are not on popular subscription sites. We have many CDs on the sidewall that may hold alternative information and therefore be extremely helpful in your search. Remember, the important thing is to search as many sites and resources as possible. Often the subscription sites have different information or digitized images compared to one of the other sites. You need to know to explore them all. Are you comfortable saving the information you have found – either to a USB or print? Apart from our wonderful computer resources, we also have a professional scanner for you to use to scan 35mm, 120 and higher negatives plus slides. We also have a ‘lightbox’ that you can use with your mobile phone and scanning apps, plus a document scanner. If you want to know how to use and get the best from the GSQ IT resources, then come to this workshop.
Member-only event – limited to 10 participants
About the presenter
Ailsa Corlett has been compiling her family history since 1989. With a New Zealand and Scottish background on all sides of her family, she has done extensive research in both areas and likes to share this knowledge to assist others with their searches. In the 1990’s she was an Accredited Record Agent via AAGRA (Australian Association of Genealogists and Record Agents) specializing in New Zealand Research. She was a member of GSQ in the early 1990s until taking a break in the 2000s and rejoining again in 2017. Love of computers and all Tech things, Ailsa was part of establishing the first GSQ Computer Group and was involved in many of the Seminars and Presentations and the Committee. Still having a love of computers, now is the convenor of TAG (Technical Advisory Group), co-host of the Monday Zoom Meetings, the 4th Wednesday Evening Zoom with guest speakers, one of the web coordinators for GSQ, and active member of the GSQ DNA SIG.
