Using GSQ computers
February 15 @ 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM
As part of your Membership GSQ offers you access to Ancestry, Findmypast, British Newspaper Archive, Roots Ireland, Family Search etc etc. on its Computers.
But did you know there are many more Digital Resources on the Computers that you can access, and do you know how to use them?
This workshop will show you how to get the best results from these Records, enabling you to find out more about your Great Uncle Joe, apart from just his Birth, Death and Marriage Dates, so that you can fill in those important life details – did you know he owned a Grocer Store in Greater London, that he went Bankrupt, was in Court to pay fines for not paying Maintenance for a child, do you know how to find a Burial Record giving you all the names of his family members etc etc.
Do you know how to copy that data from the Computer Screen to a USB Stick or how best to Print it?
And what about all the CDs/ DVDs on the Side Wall? Have you looked at them to see what else you might find? Many Scottish Burial transcriptions with Photographs, several London based Cemeteries, Early South Australian Parish Registers before Civil Registration -this is just to name a few.
Presenter: Ailsa Corlett
Ailsa has been researching her own family history for in excess of 30 years. She obtained her first computer in the 1980s and taught herself how to write programs in Basic. Since then her love of and confidence in using computers has grown. Ailsa was a member of the group which established the very first “GSQ Computer Group”, assisting with many all day seminars focused on computer programs and bulletin boards (forerunner of the internet as it is today). Ailsa is currently the convenor of the TAG team at GSQ – this team maintains GSQ’s technical equipment (computers etc).
