• It contains over 12,500 names! There are names of convicts, free settlers, judges/jurors, doctors, soldiers and references to ships and Colonial establishments (including the Penal Settlements operating during this time).
• Many of the letters were written as a result of Quarter Session and Supreme Court trials, so include reoffending convicts as well as free persons and those born in the colony.
• Each entry indicates the contents of the letter and the date it was written.
This should not be confused with the Colonial Secretary’s Correspondence, which deals with matters handled by the Colonial Secretary of the Colony.
