Subscription Databases
As a benefit to members, GSQ offers access to the following subscription websites at our Resource Centre:
Ancestry
GSQ has an institution subscription to Ancestry.com which is available on all computers. The backbone of the Ancestry.com website is all the records added to the site. Search the USA, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, and many other countries with the institution subscription.
Immigration Records - these helpful records can tell you when your ancestors travelled, where they started, who they travelled with - even when they became a citizen or were naturalised.
Census Records - Every ten years these goldmines of genealogy information were taken. They give you details like a person’s name, age, parent’s birthplace, occupation and more.
FindMyPast
GSQ has subscriptions to FindMyPast World on all computers at the GSQ Resource Centre.
This includes the most complete England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Australia census collection - from 1841.
In Ireland to assist in helping fill in the gaps left by the loss of pre - 1901 Irish censuses, land and estates records, make excellent census substitutes. There are over 3 million records available and this collection contains the largest and most details records available including the Landed Estate Court rentals and 1.4 million names in Griffith's Valuation It also has a comprehensive index to birth, death and marriage records, parish baptisms, marriages and burials dating from 1538. It addition, it also holds military, armed forces and conflict records from WWI, WWII and more.
The collection includes millions of records from Australia and New Zealand including the ever-important Electoral Rolls, invaluable when census data was not kept.
United States of America, Canada and the British East India Company records.
MyHeritage.
Massive international database of 15.7 billion historical records. Which not only covers the UK, but France, USA, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Hungary, Norway, Netherlands etc etc.
GSQ has access to the Library Edition PremiumPlus both at the GSQ Resource Centre as well as online via our Subscription Sites in MyGSQ. A fantastic resource to be able to use at home on the days you are unable to get into GSQ.
You can also search and view Family Trees and Photographs uploaded to MyHeritage if they have been made public. Log in now to enjoy.
British Newspaper Archive
The Newspapers are among the finest in the world, containing most of the runs of newspapers published in the UK since 1800 and some even go further back.
The scale of the newspaper publishing industry from the early 19th century onwards is enormous, with many cities and towns publishing several newspapers simultaneously, often aimed at distinct audiences depending on social status, geographical location and political affiliation. Some Irish newspaper are also covered. This Archive is continuously growing each day as more and more newspapers are being added. Do your research at home via the site, then view, print and copy the article when you come into GSQ.
The Genealogist
GSQ has the Diamond Edition for our members to use. The Genealogist covers records from 1127 to 2005. Many parish registers, Census Records, Immigration, Non Conformist and Tithe Records are just some that are available to search. This is available to our members either at GSQ or via our subscription sites in MyGSQ.
RootsIreland
Find your Irish Ancestors - with the most extensive and easily searchable database of Catholic Church records anywhere online, covering all of Ireland. They also have Griffith's Valuation, Census records that have remained, some Gravestone Inscriptions and Irish Ship Passenger lists. Available at GSQ or via our subscription sites in MyGSQ
Biographical Database of Australia
BDA is a new research tool for historians and genealogists comprising transcripts and indexes of many original records and published biographies of deceased individuals who arrived in or were born in Australia, starting from the earliest times. GSQ thanks the Convict Connections Interest Group for the subscription to the database. Available at GSQ or via our subscription sites in MyGSQ.
Irish Ancestors - by John Grenham
Irish Ancestors by John Grenham. A comprehensive site revolving around the Surnames and Places of Ireland. Key in your surname and see the most likely places that they came from. Access to vital records, maps, and much more. A must visit site if you have Irish Ancestors. Many thanks to the donations of the MTZoom group for this continuous subscription.
Society of Genealogist UK - Members Collection
You can access and view the many documents that are housed in the Collections of the Society of Genealogists UK at our Resource Centre. There are many indexes and documents that are not available anywhere else, plus they also offer a copy service if the document has not been digitised. You can do your research at home as it is free to search their catalogue, then view the details at GSQ. Also see our Discount Section in MyGSQ for members to obtain the codes for discounts in joining and copying services. Many thanks to the donations of the Wed morning Zoom group for this subscription.

At the GSQ Resource Centre we also have many links to other sites in which subscriptions are not required, but you may need to have your own login, purchase credits or pay for copies of the certificates etc.
FamilySearch
Even though FamilySearch is not a subscription site, GSQ is an Affiliated Library of the LDS (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)
This enables our members when visiting the Resource Centre to search and view the films that have been digitized by the LDS. These digitized films cover many areas throughout the world in relation to thousands of records. As an example: parish registers, Kirk sessions, census, immigration, wills etc etc
The special access that family history centres have been granted to these databases only works when the online services are accessed through a computer in the Family History Centre. They cannot be accessed away from the Resource Centre.
