Welcome to GSQ and how we can help you

The Genealogical Society of Queensland (GSQ) was formed in 1978 to provide help, support and advice to those wishing to discover more about their family history. Over 40+ years, the Society has accumulated a comprehensive collection of resources in print, microfiche/film and digital formats. These provide both the beginning researchers, as well as those more experienced information to help flesh out their ancestry.

GSQ also has many volunteers who staff the Resource Centre, who index cemetery and other records, who advise you on your next steps and commiserate when the inevitable brick wall is encountered, followed by helping you to break it down.  GSQ also runs an active programme of lectures, workshops, seminars and hands on activities.

Why should you join a family history society when "it is all online"?  Much of what you may need to find out isn't always available online. Of the records that are, most sit within paid subscription sites.  Membership at GSQ for a year is a fraction of the cost of what one of these sites charge.

When you visit the Resource Centre, experienced Research Assistants will help you navigate through the computer-based resources and the other parts of the library, with the aim of educating you in how to research, how to evaluate the veracity of what you find, the various ways to document your sources and perhaps most importantly, how to tell the stories.

Once you join an organisation like GSQ, you become part of a like-minded community, interacting with people who share your interest in family history (beware, it can become addictive).
