BAPTISMS - ANGLICAN OTHER CHURCHES
This list records 47 Anglican churches and parishes which recorded less than
one hundred baptisms for births between the years 1831 and 1840. Of the parishes
24 were established during the decade 1831 to 1840, most in the last three years
and 23 were established after 1840. A grand total of 813 baptisms are listed, although
30 refer to children born before 1831, plus 413 for baptisms performed after 1840.
Sadly, the transciption of the baptismal register is not complete in 23 instances
and to date for 8 parishes the baptismal register has not been transcibed at all.

The information recorded for each baptism includes:

date of birth
child's Christian name
father's family name
father's Christian name
father's year & ship of arrival in the colony
father's status upon arrival in the colony
mother's maiden name
mother's Christian name

parents' marital status at the time of the child's birth

For those parished whose register has not been transcibed the only information recorded
is what is provided by the State Archives records:
year of baptism
year of birth
child's Christian name
father's family name
father's Christian name
mother's Christian name
reference number
The list is presented in church order as per the list above then
chronological within each church.
Where the mother's surname has a second name separated by a slash,
the surname after the slash is her married name at the time of
the recording being made if she was married more than once.
Assuming listing the mother's surname indicates she was not married
to the child's father, at least 108 of the births were illegitimate.
All the officiating ministers are listed at the end of the web page,
of whom there are fifth three.
There were thirty baptisms in the State Archives Pioneer Series file which
have no entry on any of these parish registers. It is very likely that most
of these result from typographical errors and relate to post 1840 births.
Baptisms relating to births prior to 1831 are indicated with a hash
sign (#), duplicate baptisms are indicated with an asterix (*) and
baptisms for children born at sea with a percent sign (%).
There were twenty eight baptisms in the State Archives Pioneer Series file
which have no entry on this parish register. Such a large number would suggest
that an error has been made in assigning a code for the parish and others
may result from typographical errors and relate to post 1840 birhts.
These are identified with the percent sign (%).
The reference number would direct the reader to the relevant entry
in the original source document. Where no baptism has been found the State
Archives reference numbers are used.
Entries on this list have one of the reference identifiers as listed
above. To locate an entry on this list; firstly an alphabetical
search on the name would be made on Lists 1 or 2 from which the
date of baptism (or reference number) would be retrieved, secondly
using the appropriate church & date (or reference number), the
baptism would be located on this list and finally an alphabetical
search on the name would be made on the baptismal date if there should
be more than one entry for that date.
