By leaving a gift to the Society in your will, you are helping to ensure that its work and unique facilities can be continually improved and extended for future generations, perhaps even for your own descendants.

Further information about the types of bequest:
General purpose: your gift to GSQ is used for general purposes, depending on our needs at the time.
Specific purpose: you specify the purpose of your gift in your will.
Specific bequest: a specific amount.
Residual bequest: this is the remainder of your estate after the other terms of your will are satisfied.
Proportional bequest: a percentage of your estate is gifted to GSQ.

Suggested wording for a legacy:
“I give and bequeath to the Genealogical Society of Queensland Inc.
(i) The sum of $______, or
(ii) A percentage of my estate ___%, or
(iii) The residue of my estate, or
(iv) The entirety of my estate,
(i) The sum of $______, or
(ii) A percentage of my estate ___%, or
(iii) The residue of my estate, or
(iv) The entirety of my estate,
free of all duties and taxes payable at the time of my death, and I DECLARE that the receipt of the Secretary or other proper officer for the time being of the said Genealogical Society of Queensland Inc. shall be full and sufficient discharge to my trustees.”

The gift of a legacy is deeply appreciated and we strive to recognise your generosity with a mention in the journal, Generation, or perhaps by arranging a plaque in your honour. You might prefer your gift to be anonymous, either way we will be happy to discuss the options with you.
