The Colony of NSW in 1838:

Should the Transportation of Convicts Cease?

A question being asked at the time.

Two lesser known sources have been used to create an overview of what the Colony of New South Wales was like for convicts in the year 1838.

Extracts have been taken from the Quarterly Literary Advisor, Quarterly Review Vol LXII published in October 1838 in London. These extracts have been reproduced with permission from the Mitchell Library, Sydney.

The Horrors of Transportation was written by the Reverend W Ullathorne, D.D Vicar Apostolic of New Holland and Van Diemen’s Land and was printed in Dublin. This account has been reproduced by Convict Connections with permission from the National Library of Australia.
