Research services
Wherever possible, a personal visit to our Resource Centre is recommended as the best way to further your research. However, we can undertake research in our collections for members or non-members who want experienced researchers to do the work for them. The research can cover small or large tasks.
GSQ Single or Joint financial members, living outside the Greater Brisbane Region or if you have an impairment that prevents you from attending in person, are entitled to up to 5 hours per year to be used for Look Up services only. Please contact the Research Convenor at researchconvenor@gsq.org.au with your requirements to ascertain your eligibility.
Greater Brisbane Region: Brisbane City, Ipswich City, Logan City, Moreton Bay and Redland City.
Look Up: If you have the reference details from any of the Funeral Directories records or other records that are specific to GSQ, or a quick simple search of a specific record we might have. You will need to advise full details including any reference details that you have found. This is NOT an in depth research.
All research is undertaken by a small team of honorary Research Officers ― experienced members who volunteer their time, drawing on both their knowledge of genealogy and our collections to assist with research enquiries.
GSQ contains many indexes, documents, books and finding aids, mostly related to Queensland as well as other Australian States. We also have access to overseas countries data.
The more information you can supply the better the chance of a positive result. All research enquiries must be on the online form.
Other Research Services
Research services for other bodies, eg, Public Trustee, law firms, is available. Please contact the Research Convenor at researchconvenor@gsq.org.au
Anyone may submit a research request. Complete the Research Application Form, save and then attach to an email addressed to researchconvenor@gsq.org.au
Turn-around Time:
All enquiries are answered by our volunteers in the order received. Turnaround time for research is usually 3-4 weeks. However, the team is small and individual absences sometimes cause delay.
