PRESENTATION:

The Holdings of the GSQ Resource Centre: What’s in it for you, Where to Find it, What is it and How to use it in the search for your Family History . A two hour presentation will be offered on this topic on two occasions – the first on Saturday, July 5, from 9.30 until 11.30 am, and the second on Monday, July 21 from 10.00 am until 12 Noon, at 38 Fisher Street, East Brisbane.

Class Presenter is Elaine Lucas and the cost is $5.

Bookings are essential and can be made by contacting GSQ by email on gsq1@optusnet.com.au or by phoning the Library on 3891 5085, during office hours.


GSQ participates in National Trust Heritage Week 10-17 May 2008

The theme is "Coming to Queensland": who were the people that came, why they came, how they got here and what they did when they arrived. GSQ will be participating again this year and will be holding an open day at the Fisher Street Library from 9:00am to 12:00noon on Saturday 17 May. Members and non-members alike are welcome to come to the Library to check out our resources and learn more about tracing your family history. No need to book, volunteers will be available throughout the morning to help.


Bayside Branch of GSQ is holding an Open Day at their Resource Room at Moreton Bay Environment Centre, Charlotte Street, Wynnum on Wednesday 14 May from 9.30 - 12 noon. Members will be in attendance to offer any help.

Saturday 17th May between 9am - 2pm GSQ Bayside Branch in conjunction with the Wynnum Library is participating in an event with the theme "Living Local: Lytton to Lota". Bayside Branch will have their own stall with a display of what they offer and some books by local members.

Photo and Memorabilia Solutions

On Saturday 24 May, the Genealogy Society of Queensland will be hosting a Photo & Memorabilia Solutions Presentation. This is an opportunity for our members to see and understand the photo and memorabilia solutions that Creative Memories has to offer. Whether you are looking for an appropriate way to organise your genealogy project materials or present them, Maria Kearney of Creative Memories will outline the solutions available and provide one-on-one assistance. The presentation, including a break for morning tea will commence at 9.00 am for 9.30, and finish no later than 11.45 am. We would appreciate a gold coin donation at the door to assist with catering for the morning tea. However, it will be important to know numbers, so please call GSQ on 3891 5085 or email to register your attendance!


History Queensland’s 6th Biennial Family and Local History Fair

The 2008 History Queensland Family and Local History Fair will be held on Sunday, 1st June at the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds. Sponsored by the Queensland State Archives, this year’s theme is “One Hundred and fifty years on – celebrating Queensland’. This theme is of special significance as a wide range of organisations get set to celebrate Queensland’s 150th anniversary in 2009. GSQ will have a stall at the Fair. GSQ’S Annual Seminar

Mark the date for the Annual Seminar in your diary. Saturday 16 August from 9am to 4pm. We are organising a range of interesting speakers and more details will be published in June.


GSQ receives grant from Community Gambling Benefit Fund

The Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund has provided $15,970, plus GST, to the Genealogical Society of Queensland for the purchase of computing equipment, including desktop computers, a laptop computer, data projector and a laserjet printer.

GSQ is delighted to acknowledge this support and will be organising an event early in 2008 to showcase the new equipment as well as arranging training for members in its use.
